The Terrapin men’s tennis doubles team of Boris Fetbroyt and Andrew Orban had one of the best seasons in program history but still came home empty-handed from the NCAA championship in Tulsa last month.
The pair of juniors lost to the doubles team from the University of Tulsa in the second round of the 32-team tournament, 7-6 (4), 7-5. Playing on their home court and in front of a large home crowd, the Golden Hurricanes were able to pull off the upset over the highly-ranked Terps.
The Terps had advanced to the second round after defeating Louisville’s doubles team in the opening round, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2. The win over the Cardinals was the second in as many tries this season for Fetbroyt and Orban.
Despite being unable to bring a national title back to College Park, the Terps pair still had a season for the record books.The pair received an at-large bid into the field of 32 as a result of their strong regular season performance. With the bid came a guarantee of All-America status. They became the first Terps to achieve that ranking since 1976.
