At this university, students wear our Terp gear with pride, and there’s no better way to join in on school spirit than to don some yourself. So, go out and get some Terp wear at any of these locations.
The University Book Center in the Stamp Student Union offers a wide selection of apparel. From Under Armour Game Day replica football jerseys to Fear The Turtle sweatshirts, you’re likely to find something you like.
Sophomore chemistry major Matthew Costales said he bought his Terp gear at the book center because of the convenience.
“You pass Stamp so often when walking around campus,” he said. “If you need to pick up a shirt or something, might as well do it then and there.”
However, Costales, who owns a his fair share of Terp gear, including hooded sweatshirts, shirts and a tie, said he finds the store overpriced.
“I’m sure that there are probably other, cheaper places to shop,” he said.
Also check out Rugged Wearhouse in the College Park Shopping Center, rummaging around the store should help you find inexpensive university clothing and accessories.
“I love [Rugged Wearhouse],” said sophomore civil engineer major Adam Norris. “I bought a Maryland sweatshirt there for $3. I’m not going to lie, I was really proud of myself.”
Norris also recommends going to Marshalls at Beltway Plaza in Greenbelt. Even though the store is “a little more expensive” than Rugged Wearhouse, he said it offers better quality items.
But the best way to get Terp fan gear may simply be to act like a fan.
“If you go to enough games and events, you can get as much free gear as you want,” Norris said.
Other students prefer searching the net for their Terp gear and accessories.
“My brother uses eBay for his school clothes and stuff,” Costales said. “I think that it’s a really good place to search and find unique things you can’t get anywhere else.”
eBay.com offers something that many websites don’t — vintage. One unusual find on the website: a “Terps Pom-Pom Knit Rastafarian Hat” for $24.99. As always, be wary of scams.
Surprisingly, USA Today‘s online sports store has some impressive Terrapin memorabilia. Visit www.sportsstore.usatoday.com for a replica of Byrd Stadium for $55.99 or a chrome Terrapins license plate frame for $12.99.
You can also support the university’s athletics department by ordering from www.shopterps.com.
The athletics website, which carries something for everyone, including your dog, says each purchase benefits the department. Browse the “novelty” section for an array of choices. Here, you can save up to 75 percent off. Get a T-shirt that was once $19.99 for $4.96.
Sophomore letters and sciences major Rachel Booker said she prefers going to the Maryland Book Exchange where she can find and try on exactly what she’s looking for. The shop, locatedat the intersection of College Avenue and Route 1, can be found online at www.marylandbook.com.
“I think it’s really important to wear [Terrapin gear],” said Booker. “It shows school spirit.”
