It pays to have alumni in high places.
University of Maryland alumnus and host of ESPN’s SportsCenter Scott Van Pelt is bringing his show to the Xfinity Center on Nov. 17 for a live episode directly following the Terrapins men’s basketball team’s matchup with Georgetown.

After Maryland released a sweet hype video for the upcoming season, Van Pelt took to Twitter to make the announcement Sunday.
@umterps this makes me want to do our show live from Xfinity after the Georgetown game. How’s that sound? Good? Good. See you then….

I wasn’t joking about the show on 11/17. We’ll be live in Xfinity after the Maryland/Georgetown game. Do with that what you will, CP.— Scott Van Pelt (@notthefakeSVP) October 18, 2015
The game was already the first time the teams will have met since 2008. A live SportsCenter hosted one of this university’s most visible alumni only makes it more exciting.
While it appeared to be a split-second decision, Van Pelt, who is a consistent presence at Terps men’s basketball games, told 247sports he has been planning to have this show for a while.
“I kind of told the head guy here before our show ever started, on Nov. 17 either I’m not doing a show, or we’re going to do the show there. Because I will be in that building that night,” he told 247sports’s Jeff Ermann.
Van Pelt has worked at ESPN since 2001 and took over the gig as solo host of the midnight edition of SportsCenter in September.
Here’s the the Terps women’s basketball team’s hype video, which is every bit as exciting as the men’s:
