The Terrapins baseball team will play in-state rival Towson on April 15 and May 7 in the inaugural Ripken Cup collegiate baseball invitational, Ripken Baseball announced in a press release Monday.

The games will be played at Aberdeen’s Ripken Stadium.

“We are excited to be participating in this event and for the opportunity to play Towson at Ripken Stadium,” coach John Szefc said in the release. “It is an exceptional venue and we are looking forward to two great games between two good baseball teams.”

In May 2004, Georgia Tech swept a three-game series against the Terps the last time they played at Ripken Stadium. Since 2006, the stadium has hosted the finals for the Maryland public high school state baseball.

The Aberdeen Ironbirds, a short-season Class-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, play at Ripken Stadium.

Cal Ripken Jr., who broke the record for most consecutive games played while with the Orioles, and his brother Bill Ripken are co-owners of Ripken Baseball, a sports entertainment company that owns the Ironbirds, along with other minor league teams.
