Maryland men’s basketball received a verbal commitment from four-star point guard Marcus Dockery on Thursday morning, a source told 247Sports. He becomes the first member of coach Mark Turgeon’s 2020 recruiting class.

Dockery currently attends Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia, the same school former guard Melo Trimble attended. Dockery spent last season at Theodore Roosevelt High School, where he averaged 11.5 points per game, according to The Washington Post.

247Sports ranks Dockery as the No. 153 overall recruit in the 2020 recruiting class. The 6-foot prospect is the No. 29 point guard in that class and slots in as the No. 6-ranked player in Virginia. He also received offers from Cincinnati, Seton Hall and La Salle, among others, per 247.

The 165-pound point guard unofficially visited College Park over the summer and received a scholarship offer from Turgeon in September. After an official visit last week, Dockery made his commitment.

Junior point guard Anthony Cowan is projected to depart College Park just before the arrival of Dockery. So, Dockery could help fill the hole left by the 2017-18 third team All-Big Ten selection.
