As an avid chick flick viewer, I have decided to write a list of some of my favorite and popular movies and what real lessons we can take from these fantasy induced movies.
The Notebook
We can all take a couple of great lessons from this ultimate chick flick. First, when a man really wants you – trust me he will have you. Second, listen to your heart when choosing love, not your parents. Third, true love transcends time and space. Don’t forget about someone special from your past. They may crop up again.
27 Dresses/ Life As We Know It/ The Proposal
Now all of these movies may seem completely different, but they all have one overarching theme: You may fall in love with someone that you never expected to fall in love with. You will end up with someone who balances you out and makes you a better person – remember that.
What’s Your Number
If you have never seen this hilarious romantic comedy, I would highly suggest it. After watching this movie, I took one huge lesson from it: being in love means being yourself. Never change yourself to fit the image of someone else because the person you are meant to be with will love you just the way you are.
Sex and The City
For this lovely movie, I decided to break up the lessons by each character, considering all four learn large lessons in love.
- Samantha: Sometimes your happy ending is being alone and working on yourself.
- Charlotte: Trust that good things will happen to you and expect them.
- Miranda: If you ever want love to work, you must take time to forgive and then learn how to forget.
- Carrie: If it’s meant to be, it will be.
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
Besides the obvious “do not be a nutjob when in love” lesson, we can take some other tips from this movie. First of all, don’t lie in relationships. If there is anything I have learned in love, it is that honesty is the best policy. Second, if a guy is truly the guy for you – he will look past your mistakes because what matters is being with you.
The Wedding Planner
This movie is a tear-jerker classic that sparks many lessons in love. First, you will generally meet someone when you least expect it. Second, do not stay in a relationship because of the length of time you have been with someone. Third, do not settle in love, it is never worth it. Fourth, if it is meant to be, you both will feel it and it will be.
