Brenda Frese and her twin sons have made it home.

After giving birth to her first children Sunday morning, the Terrapin women’s basketball coach returned home with newborns Markus and Tyler yesterday.

When reached by phone yesterday afternoon, Frese’s husband, Mark Thomas, said the family had just gotten home, and Frese and the babies were sleeping.

He said everybody was doing well but declined an interview request.

Terp assistant coach Daron Park said he spoke to Frese first thing Monday morning, after he and the team got back from their 76-69 win at Duke on Sunday night.

Park visited Frese at the hospital Monday afternoon.

“She looks great, feels great. She’s obviously a little tired,” Park said. “I think the adrenaline is running her life, so to speak, with the excitement of being a new mother.”

The Terps were off from practice Monday, but Park said the players would wait for Frese to get settled at home before they went to see her.

The Terps had a light workout yesterday and then went bowling.

“It’s important to stay rested,” Park said.

Players were not available to the media Monday or yesterday, abiding by team policy on days when there is no full practice or game.

Park said there is still no word about when Frese will return to coaching, though Frese repeatedly promised throughout the season she would be back at least in time for the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament, scheduled to be held at Comcast Center on March 23 and 25.

“Just like everything else we’ve done this year, we’ll cross those bridges when we approach them,” Park said. “Our focus right now is just letting her get settled. We’ll figure that out when it needs to be addressed.”

Park will continue to run the team until Frese gets back, as he has already done for nine games and several practices this season.

The Terps are 8-1 so far with Park filling in.

“I’m handling everything that needs to be handled at work so she can relax and take care of what she needs to at home,” Park said. “My plan is obviously to make sure she gets time for herself and time for her babies. She knows how to get a hold of me, and we’ll speak when it’s necessary.”

The Terps will have a full practice today, and Park said he doesn’t think the births will be a distraction for the Terps as they prepare for Sunday’s game against Florida State, the Terps’ Senior Day.

“We’ve been dealing with this all season,” Park said. “She’s missed practice before. We’re obviously an experienced team led by seniors. They realize how important it is to stay focused on the task at hand.”
