Wide receiver Stefon Diggs races upfield during the Terps’ 45-21 loss to Stanford in the Foster Farms Bowl at Levi’s Stadium on Dec. 30, 2014.

Terrapins football wide receiver Stefon Diggs will forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL draft, the junior told Matt Zenitz of the Baltimore Sun on Saturday.

Diggs and his mother, Stephanie, met with Terps coach Randy Edsall for more than an hour earlier this month to discuss the junior’s draft stock and his pending decision. Edsall, a former assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars, said last week he went on a “fact-finding mission” around the NFL to try and gauge interest in the star wide receiver. He relayed all that information to Diggs, but neither Edsall nor Diggs would disclose how positive the feedback was.

Despite missing three games because of suspension and injury, Diggs led the Terps this season in receptions (62), receiving yards (792) and receiving touchdowns (5).

Perhaps his best game of the season came days ago in Santa Clara, California, during the team’s blowout loss to Stanford in the Foster Farms Bowl. Diggs caught 10 passes for 138 yards, accounting for more than half of the Terps’ total offense.
