University of Maryland Police are investigating a report of a fourth-degree sex offense on Fraternity Row from Monday afternoon, according to a UMD alert.
A female student told police she was passing the Chapel on her walk home when someone started following her. She continued to walk, and around the time they were passing 6 Fraternity Row — the home of this university’s Beta Theta Pi chapter — the person touched her “inappropriately in a sexual manner,” according to the alert. This prompted the woman to flee the scene and contact the police.
The student said the person who touched her had an “athletic build” and a beard, and was wearing a gray sweater with holes in it, according to the alert. Police searched the area, but could not find the person she described.
An investigation is underway, and police are looking at footage from the cameras in the area, said spokesperson Sgt. Rosanne Hoaas.
