For months, Trevon Diggs has teased the college football world. After initially announcing he’d make his commitment July 4, the consensus four-star spurned the Terrapins football team and committed to Alabama.

Diggs chose the Crimson Tide over the Terps and several other high-profile suitors. The Avalon School product’s commitment comes nearly a month after former coach Randy Edsall was fired.

When four-star quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. committed to the Terps in May, he promised Diggs was coming with him to College Park. But Diggs, who could play wide receiver or cornerback in college, continually delayed his decision.

But with national signing day looming in a few months, Diggs pledged his commitment to Alabama.

His older brother, current Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs, was the Terps’ leading pass-catcher in two of the past three seasons. Diggs, though, chose to create his own path.

Diggs’ commitment to Alabama comes as a big blow for the Terps. Haskins has publicly backed his friend for months, asserting that Diggs would join him and several other four-star recruits in College Park as part of a movement to lure several local stars home.
