Already entering her 10th season as Terrapins women’s basketball coach, Brenda Frese has agreed to a multi-year extension that will keep her with the Terps through at least the 2017 season, Athletic Director Kevin Anderson announced yesterday.

“Coach Frese has been the driving force in putting Maryland women’s basketball in a position of national prominence during her time here in College Park,” Anderson said in a statement.

Frese, who could earn an additional four years on her contract for meeting athletic and academic benchmarks, was named National Coach of the Year in 2002 while at Minnesota and led the Terps to their first national championship in 2006. She has also signed seven top-10 recruiting classes as Terps coach.

“There’s no place that has a better combination of where to live, where to get a great education and where to have a great basketball experience,” Frese said in a statement. “I’m really looking forward to a terrific future.”
