The Terrapins men’s and women’s cross country teams will begin postseason play when they compete in the ACC championships this Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.

Both teams look to improve on disappointing performances at last year’s conference championship, when the men finished No. 10 out of 12 teams and the women finished eighth.

Each team will enter eight athletes into the competition, but coach Michael Garrison said he will not make a decision about who will compete until Friday.

Winning the ACC championship will be tough, as Florida State and N.C. State’s men’s teams are each ranked in the top 10 in the country, while eight ACC women’s teams are ranked in the top 40.

Despite the long odds, Garrison remains optimistic and determined.

“Every race we go to, every workout, is geared to the ACC or the NCAA championships,” Garrison said. “All the preparations will hopefully be taking hold this week.”
