A 38-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle on Route 1 last night and taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

The female pedestrian was crossing the street at the intersection of College Avenue and Regents Drive, near the university’s south campus entrance at about 8 p.m., said Prince George’s County Police officer Ryan Whitlow, who responded to the scene of the crash.

The incident is still under investigation, but Whitlow said police believed the woman was crossing against the light at the time of the accident.

The car’s driver was also transported to the hospital, but a family friend at the scene — who asked to remain anonymous — said the driver was “doing fine.”

Junior art major Sarah O said she saw a glimpse of the crash while she was eating at Potbelly Sandwich Shop with friends.

“I looked over, and I just see [cars] stop,” O said. “And then, thousands of cop cars, just a whole bunch of them, just showed up and I’m like, ‘What the heck is going on?'”

But nearly 10 minutes later, traffic was flowing as usual and there was no leftover evidence that a collision had taken place.

“It was not anything really serious at all,” O said, and then, gesturing toward Route 1, she added, “There’s absolutely no debris.”
