Maryland men’s basketball is 7-0 after defeating Kansas State, 69-68, thanks to a Melo Trimble game-winning layup. However, the Terps still find themselves unranked.

In the latest AP poll, Maryland earned 126 votes, just six shy of West Virginia for the No. 25 spot.

After holding the No. 25 ranking in the AP preseason poll, the Terps fell out after a narrow win against American and haven’t returned since. And, despite 13 of the 25 ranked teams having losses this season, Maryland just can’t win back these AP voters’ hearts.

The Terps did move up to No. 22 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, though.

Some notable teams that remain ranked over the undefeated Terps in the AP poll include No. 17 Wisconsin, who recorded double-digit loses to Creighton and UNC; No. 23 Oregon, who got crushed by Baylor and lost to Georgetown (yes, Maryland did beat Georgetown); and West Virginia, who lost to Temple this week.

Also, we couldn’t help but notice one voter decided to give Rutgers a top 25 vote over Maryland. We see you, Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News. Cool. Thanks.

The Terps face off against Pittsburgh in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Tuesday and Oklahoma State on Saturday. If Maryland can pull out wins in these games, they should be able to prove they’re top 25 worthy.
