A male University of Maryland student reported to police that he was robbed while walking on a hiker-biker trail near the campus Tuesday night.
The student was walking on the trail between the 8100 block of Route 1 and Lot 11B at about 10 p.m. when a male “announced a robbery” from behind him, a University Police alert read. The victim gave his property to the male, who then left the area and headed south on the trail, the alert read.
There was no weapon involved, the alert read. No UMD alert was sent out because the student reported to police about 30 minutes after the robbery happened.
The Paint Branch trail — which extends from Cherry Hill Road Community Park to Lake Artemesia — runs between this university’s campus and Route 1, with side trails connecting to the campus, the University View and The Varsity, among other locations.
The incident was reported to the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, who are conducting an investigation.
