The Terrapin women’s tennis team dropped its final two regular-season matches during the weekend to two highly ranked opponents.
The Terps (3-17, 0-11) traveled south for their final road trip, but lost at No. 21 Clemson, 6-1 and No. 2 Georgia Tech, 7-0.
The Terps got a taste of some of the top players in the country in Sunday’s match against Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets’ lineup featured six nationally ranked singles players, but the young Terps still put up a fight.
Junior Michal Amir led No. 6 Kristi Miller for the majority of the first set before losing the lead late in the set.
Freshman Karin Lundmark also gave No. 4 Amanda McDowell a test before she too faltered in the second set.
In Saturday’s match against the Tigers, the Terps’ lone win came from freshman Oksana Krutiyenko, when she battled back after losing the first set to win her match.
The No. 12-seeded Terps will play this Thursday in the opening round of the ACC tournament when they take on fifth-seeded North Carolina. The Terps lost to the Tar Heels in their only meeting this season, 7-0.
