Diggs earned the honor after he caught a walk-off, game-winning touchdown pass from Case Keenum to defeat the New Orleans Saints during the NFL playoffs.
Maryland fans know Diggs as one of the greatest receivers in program history, with 2,227 career receiving yards and 14 career receiving touchdowns to his name during his three seasons in College Park.
Diggs and the Vikings also beat out some pretty stiff competition to the earn the honor. Arike Ogunbowale’s shot to win Notre Dame the women’s basketball NCAA tournament, UMBC’s upset of Virginia and the magical run of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights all fell short to Diggs’ dramatic catch.
The iconic ending to Minnesota’s playoff game will be forever be remembered in NFL history and winning an ESPY just further cements how incredible the moment was for Diggs.
