Terrapins right-hander Jared Price continued the streak of good starting pitching this weekend, pitching six innings of two-run ball in the Terps’ 7-3 win over Bryant on Sunday.
The Terps jumped out to a quick lead and Price, who was charged with five runs in just 1.2 innings in his last start, made the lead stand up as the Terps swept the Bulldogs.
The Terps allowed just three runs in the three games this weekend.
Sunday, the Terps scored five runs in the first two innings and chased right-hander Vaughn Hayward in the second.
Catcher Kevin Martir opened the scoring. With runners on first and third and one out in the first, Martir, beat out a grounder to third, preventing an inning-ending double play and driving in second baseman Brandon Lowe.
Papio, who entered the game hitting .615, singled to left and Martir advanced to third. The sophomore then scored on a wild pitch from Hayward.
Hayward’s control became a problem in the second when with the bases loaded and no outs he plunked Terps center fielder Charlie White and then walked second baseman Brandon Lowe.
Bryant right-hander Michael Marshall came in and allowed just one run. First baseman LaMonte Wade hit a sacrifice fly to center, driving in left fielder Andrew Amaro.
Bryant steadily chipped away at the 5-0 lead with a run in the third, fifth, and seventh innings.
The Terps responded with two insurance runs in the seventh, though, bringing their lead back up to four.
Despite being outhit 7-3, the Terps capitalized on Bryant’s lack of control, drawing seven walks and two hit by pitches.
Lowe had four walks in four at-bats.
