The Terrapin gymnastics team is scheduled to host the East Atlantic Gymnastic League Championship tonight at 6 p.m. at Comcast Center.
Tonight marks the first time a gymnastics meet has ever been held on the main floor of the arena, and will be the first time the Terps have hosted the event in eight years.
The Terps finished fifth out of eight teams at last year’s EAGL Championship, when North Carolina won the event for the second consecutive year.
The EAGL consists of teams from four different athletic conferences: Maryland, North Carolina and N.C. State from the Atlantic Coast Conference; West Virginia, Rutgers and Pittsburgh from the Big East; New Hampshire from the America East; and George Washington from the Atlantic 10.
The Terps have never won the event, and their best previous finish came the last time the event was held on the campus when they came in second in 1999.
Tonight will most likely be the last event of the year for the Terps, who are unlikely to qualify as a team for the NCAA regional championships. Several individual gymnasts may still qualify.
