During his team’s nationally televised game against Miami Central, DeMatha wide receiver and Terrapins football recruit Darryl Turner suffered what looked to be a very serious ankle injury late in the first quarter.

Turner, a 2016 four star recruit according to Rivals, hurt his ankle after making a long catch along the right sideline. Turner secured the pass, took a few steps, then went down after getting tangled up with a defensive back. Cameras showed Turner’s ankle for only a brief moment before quickly panning away due to the graphic nature of the injury.

A couple of DeMatha coaches and a handful of Miami Central players were shown in the immediate aftermath of the play, and their reactions conveyed how gruesome Turner’s injury was. ESPN decided against showing a replay. Turner was later seen being tended to on the sidelines by numerous trainers and was eventually carted away to an ambulance.

Before the game’s opening kickoff, Turner and fellow Terps recruit Tino Ellis were a part of the coin toss as DeMatha captains. The night before, Turner tweeted, “Biggest game of my life tomorrow at 12 tune in on ESPN.”

Former Terps wide receiver Torrey Smith, 2016 commit Dwayne Haskins Jr. and Terps target Trevon Diggs all reacted to the injury on Twitter.
