SEE’s decision to not screen American Sniper this semester and postpone it to a later date under pressure from the Muslim Student Association has again drawn national attention to universities’ nonchalant take on the first amendment. Despite the questionable nature of SEE’s response to MSA’s demands, the backlash of dissenters towards the MSA’s facebook page by spewing Islamophobic vitriol is distasteful and beyond the pale.

Due to the moral importance of SEE’s decision, today, the editorial board of The Diamondback, our staff writer Matt Dragonette, and law student and alumnus Jason Greer examines the implications of the recent events and the backlash resulting from it.
