Dayvon Maurice Green

Dayvon Maurice Green was under the influence of alcohol when he shot two of his roommates on Feb. 12, killing one and wounding the other before turning the gun on himself, The Baltimore Sun reported Thursday.

The graduate student had a blood alcohol concentration of .14 the morning he set small fires in his 36th Avenue house before killing 22-year-old student Stephen Rane and injuring 22-year-old student Neal Oa, according to autopsy reports obtained by The Sun.

That level is almost twice the legal limit for drivers in the state: .08.

The autopsy report revealed Green’s brain had a bullet fragment in it, according to The Sun. Green allegedly shot Rane three times — once in the lower back and twice in the buttocks. Only two of the 9mm bullets were recovered, The Sun reported.

Green’s family members told officers he had suffered from mental illness for more than a year. Less than two months after the murder-suicide shook the university community, Prince George’s County Police have officially closed the case.

In the aftermath of the shooting, which came on the heels of several mass shootings across the country, university officials assessed their safety practices and re-evaluated the mental health resources available on the campus. The university’s Counseling Center and Health Center lacked funds to hire additional staff and meet growing demand from students, who have often waited more than a month to receive regular counseling.

On Tuesday, the university dedicated $5 million over the next decade to improving its mental health services.
