Six Maryland women’s lacrosse players were named to the All-Big Ten team, the conference announced Wednesday.
Defenders Julia Braig and Lizzie Colson, midfielders Jen Giles and Grace Griffin, and attackers Caroline Steele and Megan Whittle earned the honors to tie Northwestern for the most of any team.
Braig, Giles, Steele and Whittle were unanimous selections.
Whittle, Steele and Giles finished in the Top-10 of the conference in goals and points per game, with Whittle leading the Big Ten in both.
Whittle ended the regular season with 65 goals, 12 assists and 31 draw controls. Giles tallied 40 goals, 21 assists and 31 ground balls, while Steele finished with 46 goals and 16 assists.
Griffin, one of four freshmen on the all-conference team, scored 23 goals, collected 28 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers.
Colson tied for fifth in the conference with 3.6 draw controls per game and sixth with 1.94 ground balls per game. She also caused 20 turnovers. Braig ended with 20 ground balls.
Senior Alex McKay was named the team’s Sportsmanship Honoree.
Individual player and coach of the year awards for the conference will be announced after the Big Ten tournament, which starts Friday in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
