Maryland women’s basketball senior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough will participate in the State Farm Dunk & 3-Point Championships at Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, according to a release Thursday. The event will be televised on ESPN beginning at 10 p.m.
It includes 24 college basketball players — eight dunk contest participants and eight men and women three-point shooters. There will also be a “Battle of the Champions” between the winners of those shootouts and a team shootout.
Joining Walker-Kimbrough in the women’s three-point shootout will be conference foe Tori Jankoska (Michigan State), Heather Corral (Washington), Alexis Jones (Baylor), Sydney Wiese (Oregon State), Alexis Peterson (Syracuse), Kindred Wesemann (Kansas State) and Jessica January (DePaul).
Despite not coming to College Park as an outside threat, Walker-Kimbrough finished her career Saturday as the most-accurate three-point shooter in Maryland history. She shot 45.9 percent from beyond the arc during her time at Maryland, leading the nation with a 54.5 percent clip as a junior. Her 186 career triples ranks second behind former guard Kristi Toliver, who competed in the same competition in 2009.
