Guard Varun Ram looks for an outlet pass to avoid a double team during the Terps’ 95-77 win over VMI at Xfinity Center on Nov. 30 2014.

Guard Varun Ram will return to the Terrapins men’s basketball team for a final season he announced through Twitter on Friday afternoon.

Ram transferred to this university from Trinity College before the 2012-13 season and sat out his sophomore year due to the NCAA transfer rules. The former walk-on then played the past two seasons and celebrated his Senior Day with six other Terps on Feb. 28.

The Clarksville native is set to graduate in May with degrees in neurobiology and physiology, but he will enroll in graduate school and use his final year of eligibility with the Terps.

Coach Mark Turgeon inserted the 5-foot-9 guard, who became a fan favorite over the past two seasons, in the final seconds of the Terps’ Round of 64 matchup against Valparaiso in the NCAA tournament. Ram stripped guard Keith Carter to clinch a 65-62 victory and send the Terps to the next round in March.

He will join guards Melo Trimble, Dion Wiley, Jared Nickens and transfer Jaylen Brantley in the backcourt.

CORRECTION: Due to a reporting error, a previous version of this article incorrectly identified Varun Ram as a walk-on. Ram has been on scholarship the past two seasons after joining the program as a walk-on. The story has been updated to reflect the correction.
