Avicii comes to DC

After leaving a permanent bodily imprint on my living room couch during winter break, I was more than ready to come back to College Park.

I wasn’t the only one.

Between the madness that is the start of classes and spring recruitment in the greek life community, Terps have been sure to kick start the semester with a bang.

After the first week of classes, students are ready to start venturing out into the city again, and Fur Nightclub is prepared. This Saturday, Revolvr will perform to a crowd that has likely been itching for a night in D.C.

According to Revolvr’s Facebook page, “the Las Vegas-based artist and producer specializes in igniting emotions.” Revolvr completely immersed himself in the music world, quitting his day job to follow his dream.

The name may turn off listeners due to the recent gun-related incidents across the country, but he assures the name is not insinuating weapon use.

“Revolvr doesn’t reference a gun,” he says on the Fur event page. “The name points to the fact that my style revolves around so many different aspects of music. I take what I feel I connected to in each genre and infuse that into my own work, whether it’s a remix or an original production.”

Revolvr’s big break came when Tiesto featured his “Beats Inside My Head” in his Club Life tour set. His performances at Camp Bisco and alongside Avicii built up his resume. With tracks gaining momentum on Beatport and iTunes, there is nowhere to go but up. Tickets can be purchased here.

Speaking of Avicii, he will be performing at the Armory in Washington again this Friday at Super Glow brought to you by Club Glow. Recently, the hipsters of EDM have been mocking the Swedish DJ who rose to stardom after his hit song, “Levels,” went nearly viral. They complain he is now too mainstream after partaking in the ad campaigns of Bud Light and Ralph Lauren.

However, Avicii still has a lot to offer. After he released this song with Nicky Romero, it’s safe to say he works hard to keep himself relevant (or at least not be a one hit wonder in the eyes of bandwagon fans). Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.

The upcoming semester holds more opportunities for a fun time than ever before, including performances by David Guetta, Rihanna, Bon Jovi and Fleetwood Mac, not to mention the most anticipated performance of them all: the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl.

And, just like everyone else, I cannot wait to find out what kind of madness Terrapin Turf will bring to the Route 1 bar scene.

All in all, I know one thing for sure: This. Will. Be. The. Best. Semester. Ever.
