The first week of classes involved new pencils, hot weather and back-to-school outfits. Some Terps on the campus dressed to impress to kick off the fall semester and wore everything from rompers to jean vests. I went around and asked some of them about their fashion choices.

Name: Allison Heuber

Major: Hearing and Speech Sciences

Year: Senior

Q: Why did you decide to wear this to class today?

Allison Heuber: Because it is really hot out and it is a really comfortable dress. It is also my favorite dress from Urban Outfitters.

Q: How has your style changed since freshman year?

AH: Freshman year I didn’t really have much of a style, I kind of acquired it later on. Also, it is the beginning-of-the-year kind of thing where you try to look nice and then slowly slum it down.

Q: Do you think it’s hard sometimes having to dress up for class?

AH: Yeah kind of, I’ll pick out like five different outfits if I don’t like what some of them look like.

Q: What are your favorite stores?

AH: I like Free People and Urban Outfitters, I will get stuff to layer with at Forever 21 and H&M.

Name: Olivia Harris

Major: Journalism

Year: Sophomore

Q: Why did you decide to wear this outfit today?

Olivia Harris: Well, I really liked the skirt, but I didn’t want it to be too pretty so I just threw a T-shirt over it for class.

Q: Why do you think it is important to dress nicely the first week of classes?

OH: I always believe in a good first impression. And I also think that dressing good makes you feel good.

Q: In the winter, when it gets harder to dress well, how will you make your outfits still fun and exciting?

OH: I definitely love bright colors that anyone can still do in the winter. I love sweaters, boots, cardigans and scarves. Scarves can change an outfit in a heartbeat. If you just have a plain long sleeve shirt on and you put on a scarf, boom, you’re ready [to go].

Name: Dani Katz

Major: Psychology

Year: Junior

Q: How do you spice up your outfits in the beginning of the school year?

Dani Katz: I don’t like jewelry that is too extreme, but more gentle things can really add to an outfit. Also, shoes are a really important part of an outfit.

Q: Where is your favorite place to buy shoes?

DK: Nordstrom

Q: What celebrity influences your style?

DK: I really like Lucy Hale.

Q: How has your style changed from high school?

DK: I think I try to look more put-together instead of just [wearing] random things.
