Maryland women’s lacrosse goalkeeper Megan Taylor is the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.

The sophomore collected the honor for the third time in four weeks this season after a standout performance at Hofstra on Saturday. The No. 1 Terps (4-0) have had at least one player win a conference award each week since the season began.

Taylor anchored the Terps’ defense in Hempstead, New York, on Saturday, making 10 saves and allowing six goals before coach Cathy Reese inserted reserve goalkeeper Emily Kift for the final six minutes. Taylor’s several close-range stops preserved the 18-7 victory.

The Glenelg native is allowing an average 7.23 goals per game and has made 38 saves while conceding 27 scores. She has compiled a save percentage of .585, more than 11 percent better than the .471 percentage she posted during her Big Ten Goaltender of the Year campaign as a freshman.

She will look to continue her success in the cage when the Terps host Boston College on Wednesday night.
