Maryland women’s lacrosse attacker Megan Whittle was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after her strong performance against Florida on Saturday.

Whittle had five goals, five draw controls and converted three of four free position shots in a 16-14 win over the Gators.

“She played great,” coach Cathy Reese said of her role in the victory. “She was trying hard to create looks for us on offense and getting things going.”

National recognition is nothing new for the attacker. For three years in a row she’s been named an All-American, Tewaaraton nominee and selected to the All-Big Ten team.

The senior captain, who goaltender Megan Taylor calls an “absolute stud,” led the Terps with 71 goals and 87 points last year.
