Senior guard D.J. Strawberry was named to the Second Team All-ACC and All-ACC Defensive Team on Monday. Strawberry has averaged 15.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this season.Though coach Gary Williams said Strawberry has become one of the top players in the country, he conceded that the ACC first team (Jared Dudley, Tyler Hansbrough, Al Thornton, Sean Singletary and Zabian Dowdell) was stacked with talent.”In a normal year, he could’ve very easily made first team, but those five guys on the first team, you can’t dispute any of those guys,” Williams said. “And I think D.J. belongs right there with them.”Strawberry is ranked No. 5 in the ACC in steals per game, but finished behind Jamon Gordon in the voting for ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Strawberry earned ACC Player of the Week honors two straight times in the past month, as he has sparked the Terps’ seven-game winning streak.Guard Greivis Vasquez was named All-Freshman honorable mention after averaging 10.0 points and 4.65 assists per game, finishing seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio. Williams said Vasquez deserved to make the All-Freshman team.
