True love isn’t easy to come by — just ask the millions of Americans who use online dating sites. Scrolling through profile after profile of quirky dog lovers can get old, so why not try a new way to meet your soul mate? Food dating apps bring together people with appetites! Whether it be salad or bacon, there’s a food dating app to help you find a tasty match.
We’ll forgive the fact that the new app created by Oscar Mayer might have something to do with bacon sales as well as happy endings. Sizzl is pretty straightforward: You describe your ideal bacon, and it’ll match you with the ideal human. The app allows you to “X” or “heart” a bacon lover who catches your fancy, and if you match, you can chat. Is turkey bacon your go-to? Or maybe you’ll only kiss a pork lover. And then a really difficult question: Would you share the last piece of bacon, take it for yourself or give it away? In any case, type of meat, crispiness and sharing habits are practically all one needs to know before setting up a brunch date.
If the thought of eating a porker is too much to swallow, how about a fresh bowl of leafy greens? Just Salad, a chain salad shop with locations in New York, Chicago, Hong Kong and Dubai, has created an app to bring you and your fellow salad lover together. First, you choose the city and time you most often visit Just Salad. Then you pick from a variety of salad types. Do you prefer meatless salads or ones with seasonal flavors? Is gluten-free a must, or will you eat anything chef-designed? Maybe you’re such a free spirit that “make my own” is your go-to choice. And if you didn’t quite grasp the idea of the app, you can pick “I only eat wraps.” It’s clear SaladMatch has a sense of humor — and a desire to sell more of Just Salad’s own salad, as it sets up meetings for you at its restaurants. But that’s forgivable; the app might not be the flashiest, but it is fun.
While not specifically a dating app, WhatsApplebee’s is specific in all other regards. The social networking app that only works when you’re inside an Applebee’s uses GPS to determine if you’re a true patron or a poser. Why not fall in love over The Blazin’ Texan burger and some chicken tenders? Ever wanted something on the 2 for $20 menu and had no one to share with? WhatsApplebee’s solves this dilemma by putting you in direct contact with others in the restaurant — you know, without having to awkwardly approach them at their table to ask if they’d like to date you. The app is a project of developer Mike Lazer-Walker and isn’t affiliated with the restaurant chain, but it might give you a hankering for some small talk over a side of fries.
