UMD Graduate Student Government President Stephanie Cork plans to announce her resignation

University of Maryland Graduate Student Government President Stephanie Cork plans to announce her resignation Friday, she wrote in a text message to a Diamondback reporter Tuesday afternoon.

Cork would not immediately comment on her decision to resign.

Cork has informed the body’s executive committee of her plans to resign, said Katie Brown, GSG public relations vice president. In order to officially step down, all GSG executives — including the president — must give notice to the group’s assembly, according to GSG bylaws.

Cork was elected as GSG’s president in spring 2016, Brown said.

Her work has largely focused on diversity issues and issues related to people with disabilities. She is the commissioner of the President’s Commission on Disability Issues, co-founder of the TerpAccess Disability Network and has served on the President’s Student Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion, according to the public health school’s website.
