To our readers:
At The Diamondback, we strive to deliver the day’s news in engaging, exciting ways while providing our student journalists with an incomparable real-world education — just as we’ve been doing since 1909. A lot has changed since then in both College Park and the news industry, but our mission has remained the same. We strive to ensure that The Diamondback can continue bringing you all the news you’ve come to expect while preparing the journalists of the future for a rapidly changing field.
As an independent publication, we receive no financial backing from the university, instead relying on self-generated revenue and our donors’ generosity. The costs of providing a 21st-century journalism education — equipment, travel and student stipends — are growing, and The Diamondback is rising to meet that challenge. With your help, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of our students.
This fund was established in 2015 in honor of Michael Fribush, Maryland Media’s General Manager from 1972 until 2015. Michael become The Diamondback’s first general manager upon his graduation from the University of Maryland and led the organization through challenging early years to full independence and financial success. Through his dedication, guidance and leadership, The Diamondback has grown into one of the nation’s preeminent college newspapers, perennially winning regional and national awards for journalism excellence and preparing hundreds of student journalists for distinguished careers at the top media organizations in the world, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times and scores of others.
Please consider making a donation to The Diamondback today so we can continue publishing a student newspaper of which you and our students can be proud. The Diamondback is an IRS-recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and any charitable donation made will be fully tax-deductible to individuals or corporations.
Thank you,
The Diamondback
