Porter Robinson

Porter Robinson – Language

Porter Robinson’s production style has been known to incorporate fast and upbeat tempos, but “Language” shows a new side of this 20-year-old’s talent. This track reminds me a little of deadmau5’s beginning work and the progression he uses to build up the collection of chords is nothing short of brilliant. Robinson also includes a vocal drop in the middle of the song that only adds to its relaxing feel. The electro-house community has seen him take the genre by storm, including a notable mention in DJ Mag’s Top 100 and appearances at Ultra Music Festival & Electric Zoo. You can purchase “Language” on Beatport and find more of his work on his YouTube and Facebook pages.

Kendrick Lamar – good kid, m.A.A.d city Album

There is no doubt Kendrick Lamar has seen a quick rise to fame in the rap game. His major label album introduction, released in late October, received copious amounts of recognition and debuted at No. 1 on both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Rap Albums. My favorite song has to be “Backseat Freestyle,” in which Kendrick shows off more of a raw element of his talent. Other notables off the CD are “Swimming Pools” and “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.” The album’s concept is about Kendrick as a teenager and his experiences with the Compton gang life. I highly suggest you give the entire project a listen and watch out for what is yet to come from this young rap icon.

Charles Hamilton – Brooklyn Girls

I honestly had never heard of this song until my roommate set it as his ring tone, but I’m glad he did. It reminds me of Chiddy Bang, but Charles Hamilton shows off his own distinct style. Sure, it might’ve come out in 2008, but there’s no point in not shedding light on amazing music. Although he’s no longer an active music producer, this track displays the love of his New York roots and Brooklyn girls. Check out the music video, directed by Matt Alonzo from Skee.TV Productions and grab the track on iTunes.
