LB Demetrius Hartsfield is helped off the field after getting injured in the second quarter.

Terrapins football linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL, according to a statement issued by the team today.

Hartsfield suffered the injury with 2:20 remaining in the second quarter of the Terps’ 33-13 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday.

A nine-game starter this season, the senior leads the Terps with 78 tackles, and he also recorded an interception, two fumble recoveries and 3.5 sacks.

He is the fifth Terp to be ruled out for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL this year.

“This is another tough loss for the program,” coach Randy Edsall said in a statement. “Demetrius is a captain and has been a leader of this defense both on and off the field. I feel terrible for him because I know how much the game means to him. To have his senior year cut short is just disheartening. We will be here to support him through the rehab process and help him with his transition towards the next stage of his career.”
