Every week, staff writer James Crabtree-Hannigan will take a look at the careers of a number of former Maryland athletes embarking on professional careers in a variety of leagues. Every Monday, it’s former baseball players. The stats are from games through July 9.

Due to the holiday last week, this baseball edition of Pro Terps recaps the players’ last two weeks of play.

Brett Cecil, LHP, Toronto Blue Jays

2016 stats: 0-5, 5.27 ERA, 12 strikeouts, 3 walks, 20 hits, 13.2 innings pitched

Skinny: Cecil missed more than a month due to a torn lat but returned to the big leagues June 30. He has pitched three times since then, totaling 3.1 innings and allowing two runs.

Justin Maxwell, OF, Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate)

2016 stats: .219 average, .310 on-base percentage, 5 HR, 25 RBI, 61 strikeouts, 25 walks

Skinny: Thursday, the Red Sox released Maxwell and he signed a contract with the Lotte Giants, a Korean League team. He had put up average numbers as a triple-A starter but was never promoted to the major leagues, despite the team’s outfielders dealing with injuries. He has yet to be added to the Giants’ roster.

Adam Kolarek, LHP, Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays Triple-A affiliate)

2016 stats (AAA): 0-1, 2.57 ERA, 31 K, 16 BB, 14 H, 28 IP

Skinny: Kolarek has thrown 7.2 innings in five games, including four frames against the Norfolk tides July 1, his longest outing of the season. He has not given up a run in his past six games and has limited opponents to three hits in that span.

Jose Cuas, 3B, Brevard County Manatees (Milwaukee Brewers High-A affiliate)

2016 stats: .190 AVG, .295 OBP, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 79 K, 30 BB

Skinny: Cuas hit .161 in April and .203 in May, finishing that month with a .185 average on the season. In the 29 games in June and July, he’s hit .204. Over the past two weeks, he’s gone 7-for-51 (.157) with three extra base hits and two RBIs.

Jake Stinnett, RHP, Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs High-A affiliate)

2016 stats: 7-3, 4.23 ERA, 71 K, 27 BB, 75 H, 83 IP

Skinny: Stinnett had the best start of his season June 26, striking out five over eight innings and allowing one run, which was unearned. His next two outings weren’t as successful, though. In both, he gave up six runs on seven hits and did not get through the sixth inning.

LaMonte Wade, OF, Fort Myers Miracle (Minnesota Twins High-A affiliate)

2016 stats (High-A): .355 AVG, .400 OBP, 0 HR, 7 RBI, 4 K, 2 BB

Skinny: Wade was called up to High-A June 22 after tearing up the Single-A Midwest League to start the season. He was immediately placed on the disabled list, though, and had been bothered by a hamstring injury for much of the season. He made his High-A debut July 1 and has picked up right where he left off, going 11-for-31 in his first nine games with the team, including a three-hit performance against the St. Lucie Mets on July 5.

Jake Drossner, LHP, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers Single-A affiliate)

2016 stats: 3-5, 4.24 ERA, 55 K, 34 BB, 68 H, 57.1 IP

Skinny: Drossner still transitions between his role as a starter and reliever. He gave up three runs over four innings in relief June 28 and has started both of his games since. He went four innings and allowed three runs against the Burlington Bees on July 3 and threw five innings of one-run ball against the Peoria Chiefs Friday.

Brandon Lowe, 2B, Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays Single-A affiliate)

2016 stats: .266 AVG, .364 OBP, 1 HR, 25 RBI, 48 K, 30 BB

Skinny: Lowe’s hit .325 over the past two weeks with four extra-base hits and five RBIs. He has gotten a hit in his last 12 games, a stretch dating back to June 25, and has four multi-hit games in that time. He blasted his first home run of the season July 10.

Zach Morris, LHP, Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies Single-A affiliate)

2016 stats: 4-1, 2.90 ERA, 34 K, 19 BB, 38 H, 40.1 IP

Skinny: Since May 13, Morris has a 0.36 ERA. June 27, he gave up an earned run for the first time since May 9, a 20-inning streak. He has thrown 3.2 scoreless innings since, striking out four and allowing three hits.

Rob Galligan, LHP, Missoula Osprey (Arizona Diamondbacks Rookie Affiliate)

2016 stats: 0-0, 8.59 ERA, 4 K, 4 BB, 10 H, 7.1 IP

Skinny: Galligan, a 36th round draft pick in June’s MLB draft, struggled June 17 in his first professional outing. He has settled since then, though, giving up three earned runs in seven innings.
