Pinser app
The era of mind-numbing weekends with nothing to do is over. Now, you can get a quick preview of what students are doing all around College Park with a few taps of your finger. Pinser, a free app that lets users post 10-second videos linked to their exact location, is now available in the iOS app store and will officially launch at this university on Nov. 6.
Students can post videos of on-campus events or parties, which will appear on Pinser for 24 hours before being removed. Users can vote and comment on the videos, and there is also a “Take Me Here” feature that gives directions to where each video was taken, according to a news release.
This app is mainly targeted to college campuses and cities, where there are always events going on but not everyone knows about them.
However, the most distinctive aspect of the app is that users do not have to set up an account. Once the app is downloaded, just tap it and videos taken around your location will immediately start popping up.
Pinser has three co-founders, two of whom graduated from this university in 2013.
“Students will be able to find out what is happening around them through the eyes of others in their community, all through 10 second user submitted videos,” Kevin Lance, one of the co-founders and recent graduates of this university, wrote in an email. “With Pinser, everything on the app is happening within 40 miles of you or less, so it is always local and current content.”
The three co-founders will be on the campus Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 as part of their 2015 college tour of the East Coast. They will be either on McKeldin Mall or in front of Stamp Student Union to help explain to students how to use the app, and to give out prizes.
I tested out this app, and at the moment there is not a lot of content. I only had access to three videos, and none were on the campus. That is mainly due to the fact that the app was just released Wednesday and hasn’t been officially launched at this university yet.
Pinser is not available on Android devices now, but is currently in development, according to the news release.
This app has potential, but for now it is still unknown.
