Before this weekend in college football, Alabama looked like a BCS championship contender once again. But then Texas A&M and quarterback Johnny Manziel came into Tuscaloosa this past Saturday and upset the No. 1 Crimson Tide. This left only three teams in the country that are undefeated and eligible to be ranked.

The most recent BCS rankings reflected just that. According to the computers, Kansas State, Oregon and Notre Dame are now the top three teams in the country, respectively. Their zero losses collectively suggest this as well. Now, the question becomes which undefeated team will lose next?

Well, first, let’s look at the remaining schedules for each team.

Kansas State will play at Baylor, a 4-win team, on Saturday night and then at home against #15 Texas. The first game should be an easy win for the top-ranked Wildcats.

However, their last matchup of the season will be a tough one even though it is at home. It should be noted, though, that this team has beaten a number of high-ranked teams earlier in the season. They defeated then-No.6 Oklahoma away and then West Virginia, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State (all ranked in the top 25 at the time of the games) in three consecutive weeks.

Before Kansas State’s win at TCU this past weekend, the Wildcats’ chances at going undefeated were 27.7 percent, according to Paul Bessire’s Predictalator.

The second-ranked Oregon Ducks have three remaining games on their schedule: at home versus #13 Stanford, at #16 Oregon State and the Pac-12 Championship game.

All three of these matchups are tough ones, just by looking at the rankings of the opponents. Stanford is 8-2 while Oregon State is 7-2 — both proving to be formidable challengers to give Oregon its first loss on the season. The Pac-12 championship game will be a competitive and close game no matter who the opponent is.

By the looks of things, it seems as if USC, a preseason No. 2 team, will be there against Oregon. According to the Predictalator, Oregon’s chances of going undefeated before their weekend win at California was 20.2 percent.

It is believed by many critics that Notre Dame has the toughest road in staying undefeated, as they play their last game of the season away at #18 USC. This is true, yet the Predictalator has given the Fighting Irish the best chance at winning out at 39.8%.

In that USC game on Nov. 24, the matchup between the Notre Dame defense and their opponent’s offense will be key to whether we see an undefeated team in South Bend. USC’s offense is the 26th best in the nation under the leadership of a star quarterback in Matt Barkley. However the Notre Dame defense is the top-ranked in the nation as they have only given up about 11 points per game.

Next up, the Heisman contenders on each undefeated team.

Notre Dame’s linebacker Manti Te’o is the leading defenseman on the team, and a finalist for the best college football player this year. He has 92 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 6 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries on the season. His sixth pick on Saturday gave him the most in a single season by a Notre Dame linebacker in team history.

In the most recent poll of ESPN experts and analysts, Te’o received only one first place vote to win the Heisman Trophy. Te’o anchors that top-ranked defense for Notre Dame – the biggest reason they are still undefeated since their offense only puts up about 26 points per game.

On the other hand, Kansas State’s quarterback Collin Klein is now the frontrunner to win the prestigious award. The senior has passed for 2,020 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season with only three interceptions to his name. He has an astonishing 69.7 completion percentage.

Although Klein may not pass for a huge number of yards per game, his rushing and scrambling ability is what sets him apart from the other contending quarterbacks. He has rushed for 748 yards this season with 19 touchdowns. As a quarterback of the Wildcats, Klein is the best passer and rusher on the “best” team in the country.

For Oregon, one of the most exciting players in college football anchors their strong offensive game. Kenjon Barner, the running back for the Ducks, has rushed for 1,360 yards this season with 19 touchdowns.

His biggest game came against USC when he ran for over 300 yards and got into the end zone five times. Barner remains one of the biggest reasons why Oregon has the most prolific offense in the nation.

So the question remains. Who will lose first?
