Two men were robbed Monday night outside of Cornerstone Grill and Loft after an argument inside the bar ended in the street, according to Prince George’s County Police.

The victims, one of whom is a 21-year-old student at this university, won a Terps’ football uniform and a necklace during a raffle in the bar and were negotiating a selling price with the two suspects, District 1 Commander Maj. Hector Velez said. One of the suspects was kicked out of Cornerstone during the argument, and the other suspect followed him out.

When the victims left the bar, the two suspects were waiting outside to continue negotiating a price for the items they won inside, Velez said.

The suspects punched the victims and stole the jersey and necklace, Velez said. Police could only confirm that one of the victims was a student at this university.

He noted police are still trying to determine the sequence of events.

“We’re still in the process of figuring out what happened,” Velez said.

University Police spokesman Capt. Marc Limansky said police don’t believe the victims knew the suspects before Monday night. He added he doesn’t believe anyone was severely injured in the incident. There were no weapons involved in the altercation, but Velez confirmed the two victims were intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The pair waited an hour to report the incident to police, Velez said.

The suspects are described as two white males in their mid-20s, but no further information could be provided, police said.

Prince George’s County Police responded to the incident and University Police sent a crime alert to students Tuesday afternoon.

The crime alert indicated only one victim was involved in the incident.

Sophomore Russian language and literature major Peyton Wilson saw authorities outside of Cornerstone last night, but didn’t know they were responding to this robbery.

“It’s terrifying,” Wilson said. “Cornerstone is right down the street from my house. I usually walk around the block at night before bed, so I was out there last night around 12 a.m., but I had no clue what happened.”

Sophomore biochemistry major Bob Weick said he was upset but not surprised by the incident.

“It’s something that I wish we didn’t have to deal with, but it’s not that surprising,” Weick said. “With bar fights happening at Cornerstone before … as well as the regularity of muggings around Route 1, I think the students of College Park aren’t shocked that these kinds of things can happen.”
