C.J. Brown

In the midst of an offseason dedicated to rehabbing the torn ACL that kept him sidelined all of last season, C.J. Brown finally got a bit of good news yesterday.

The NCAA granted the Terrapins football quarterback a sixth year of eligibility yesterday, giving him two more years with the Terps.

“It’s really good news, and I feel good for him. I’m glad we got that taken care of now, and that’s something we don’t have to worry about,” coach Randy Edsall said. “When I pulled him out of the meeting and told him, he was thrilled and excited about it.”

Brown hasn’t been able to participate in any full-team drills this spring, but he began taking part in 7-on-7 drills a few weeks ago. He won’t be able to play in Friday’s Red-White Spring Game, but he said he expects to be completely healthy for the start of the season.

“I think he’s made tremendous progress from the first day he came out and did 7-on-7. He was very tentative and he wasn’t driving off that back leg,” Edsall said. “You could see today: it was like night and day from the first day he did 7-on-7 to now. He’s got that confidence back and you can see that he’s been studying and working and he does things that you want out of a quarterback.”
