An adult female was killed in a car accident near the University of Maryland Saturday morning, police said.

Around 6:40 a.m., a car driving south on Route 1 near Cherry Hill Road collided with another vehicle before crossing the median into oncoming traffic and crashing into a pickup truck, said Cpl. Kyndle Johnson, a spokesperson for the Prince George’s County Police Department.

The car’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and occupants of the pickup truck suffered non-life threatening injuries. Route 1 was closed from the Beltway to Cherry Hill Road until 11:45 a.m., Johnson said.

There is no indication yet if any university students or personnel were involved, Johnson said.
