A.J. Metz, a 6-foot-8 senior at Bullis School in Potomac, has accepted an offer to join the Terrapins men’s basketball team as a preferred walk-on next year, Bullis coach Bruce Kelley announced on twitter Friday.

Metz, a small forward, averaged 17 points per game and shot 58 percent from the field for the IAC champion Bulldogs this season, according to his recruiting profile. The Leesburg, Va., native also sports a 3.85 GPA and played baseball during high school.

As a preferred walk-on Metz will likely earn a roster spot and participate in team activities without taking up one of 15 scholarships the Terps can award players.

He’ll join a front court that includes forwards Jake Layman, Evan Smotrycz, Charles Mitchell and newcomer Damonte Dodd as well as center Shaquille Cleare.
