In a meeting with another team in the Big Ten’s lower tier, the Terrapins volleyball team hoped to keep its recent success alive and string together a third consecutive win against Iowa.

The Terps, though, lost in straight sets in a match that featured 27 tie scores and 12 lead changes.

Very little could distinguish the two teams in the first frame. Both teams started the night playing cleanly. But after a back and forth set, the Hawkeyes pulled out the win, 25-21, to put take a 1-0 lead.

The second frame was not much different as the two squads traded points for most of the set. Toward the end, Iowa began to distinguish itself with key blocks. They would claim the set, 25-17, and send the Terps to the locker room down 2-0 at intermission.

After the break, the teams continued their evenly-matched bout. The Terps held the lead for a majority of the set, but began to fall apart toward the end. The team made a late push but ultimately conceded the set and the win, 25-20.

Outside hitter Ashleigh Crutcher led the team with 10 kills. Setter Carlotta Oggioni produced 13 assists.

The Terps next match will be tomorrow against No. 14 Nebraska at 7 p.m.
