Three former Terrapin field hockey players will travel to Beijing to represent the USA in the 2008 Olympic Games in August. Lauren Powley (class of 2006), Dina Rizzo (’02) and Keli Smith (’01) were selected to the 16-player national team, USA Field Hockey announced Monday.

Another former Terp, Sara Silvetti (’05) will accompany the team to China as an alternate.

n Swimmers can represent U.S. with success at trials

Five Terp swimmers will compete at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha next week. The trials span from June 29 to July 4.

Senior Dong Kim will compete in the men’s 50-meter and 100-meter freestyles. Senior Eric Cullen, will swim in the 100-meter breaststroke.

On the women’s side, three juniors from the Terps swim team will compete at the trials. Jen Vogel will race in the 100-meter butterfly, while Patty DeScenza and Nina Rossi are entered in the 200-meter butterfly.

n Future Terp Hastings to play with U.S. U-18 team

Freshman Lydia Hastings – who will be a member of the Terps’ women’s soccer team this fall – was recently named to the U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team Foreign Training Camp.

The forward/midfielder will travel to Europe on June 27 for a nine-day training trip, featuring two matches against Denmark’s U-19 team and one against England’s on July 4.
