They need to score here because they will get the ball after half — that is the only possible way the Terps can make this game anywhere near to close.

Hollenbach interception. Things are getting even uglier.

8:17 pm

The name Steve Slaton is probably the only one in the Fridge’s mind right now. The running back made a cut to his left, then his right, broke a few tackles and then danced all the way to the house. The run was 37 yards.

Drive Summary:

10 plays 96-yard 4:42

Drive Summary:

6 plays 69-yards 3:17

Slaton 38-yd TD run.

7:50 pm

It looked as if Steve Slaton fumbled the ball and the Terps recovered. Following a few Terp cheers the ruling on the field was called down by contact. Still Mountaineer ball.

7:49 pm

Obi Egekeze kicked to Vaughn Rivers who returned the kick 26 yards to the the 31 yard-line.

7:42 pm

We’re about two minutes away from kickoff. The flashbulbs buzzed as the Mountaineers stormed the field. It followed with a storm of boos for the Terps. The gametime conditions are: Temperature 68 degrees. The winds from the southwest at 5-6 mph.

Welcome the The Diamondback’s coverage of Terp football.  Tonight the Terps set to face No. 5-ranked West Virginia on Thursday night football. Both teams are warming up right now as we are about 30 minutes away from the action.  The Terps are wearing all white and the Mountaineers are in blue and yellow.  The student section on the upper deck is full of yellow and there is only a smattering of Terp red throughout the stadium.

Posted 4:50 pm

The Terps (2-0) and West Virginia Mountaineers (2-0) will square off tonight at 7:45 from Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, W. Va.

The Diamondback will have continuous live updates from the game. As the game progresses, e-mail me at bmanndbk@gmail.com with questions and/or comments.

Pregame Notes:

– The all-time series is tied 21-21-2. In the team’s most recent meeting, the Terps fell to the Mountaineers 31-19.

– This will be the last time these two teams meet in the regular season for at least two seasons. In 2007 and 2008, Maryland has scheduled a home-and-home series with California.

– Ralph Friedgen is 4-2 against Rich Rodriguez since taking over as head coach of the Terps. The two teams met in the 2003 Gator Bowl, where the Terps crushed West Virginia 41-7.

– West Virginia’s running back, Steve Slaton, was originally committed to play at Maryland. However, Friedgen rescinded the offer because he had too many running backs. Slaton has 308 yards and four touchdowns on only 41 carries so far.
