After racking up their seventh-straight victory Wednesday and remaining in the top spot in the NCAA coaches poll, the players on the field hockey team glowed with confidence.
No ranked team stands in the way of the team’s assurance, even with No. 8-ranked Boston College and No. 13-ranked James Madison University coming to town this weekend.
“We’re ready,” coach Missy Meharg said looking toward the weekend’s difficult matchups. “We’re ready to compete in the ACC. We’re at that juncture where we’re ready for some consistently high-level hockey straight through.”
The Terps’ toughest test thus far was against then No. 4-ranked Old Dominion two weeks ago, but the team has outscored and outshot opponents 28-4 and 161-31 this season, respectively.
The games get much more difficult starting Saturday, though, as five of the next six foes are ranked in the top 20.
Nevertheless, the players said they are prepped for the games to come.
“If we keep playing together, then the better the team we play, the more organized we’ll be,” midfielder Berber Rischen said. “We’re totally ready for it.”
