Terp basketball forward Travis Garrison will have to register as a sex offender as a result of his guilty plea on Monday.
Former Terps basketball forward Travis Garrison pleaded guilty Monday to a fourth degree sex offense and received probation before judgment for an assault charge related to an incident at Cornerstone Grill and Loft in October.
The ruling will require the former McDonald’s All American to register as a sex offender in addition to spending 10 days in jail, serving 100 hours of community service and working with the Athletics Department on lecturing university athletes about the consequences of actions such as those of Garrison.
Police charged Garrison after a woman complained he had grabbed her buttocks repeatedly then slapped her in the face when she refused his advances. Garrison and his attorney said they would appeal the sexual offense ruling.
The probation before judgment ruling on the assault charge will allow Garrison to have the charge erased from his record if he successfully completes two years of probation, the first of which will be supervised. His jail sentence will be served over five weekends.A full story will appear in Thursday’s Diamondback.
