The Terrapins baseball team won on a walk-off infield single Sunday in a 3-2 victory over Massachusetts at Bob “Turtle” Smith stadium.
With the bases loaded and one out, third baseman Mike Rescigno’s grounder to second drove in center fielder Charlie White.
Right-hander Jared Price ran into trouble early, allowing three straight batters to reach with two outs in the first. The sophomore worked out of the jam, however, striking out catcher Brandon Walsh.
Later that inning, the Terps capitalized on their own bases loaded opportunity. First baseman LaMonte Wade scored on a sacrifice fly and then shortstop Blake Schmit drove in another run with a single to left.
The Minutemen got a run in the third on a one-out grounder to short.
Price got into another bases loaded jam in the fourth. Three straight Minutemen reached base to start the inning. Massachusetts tied the game at 2-2 with a ground out up the first base line.
Price struck out the last two batters to end the inning and Massachusetts again stranded runners in scoring position.
With one out in the 10th, the Terps hit two straight singles. Papio was then hit by a pitch, loading the bases, before Rescigno delivered the game-winning hit.
