Police are searching for three men in connection with an assault and robbery of a man on Friday morning in the CVS Pharmacy parking lot on Route 1 near Hartwick Road.

The incident occurred about 2:10 a.m., according to a crime alert issued to the university. The victim asked three men nearby to light a cigarette for him. One of them did, but as the victim began to walk away, the three men attacked him.

According to the crime alert, one of the men knocked the victim to the ground and the two other men began attacking the victim. The men also stole property from the victim during the attack. The three men then fled the scene.

The victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries, the crime alert reported.

A CVS employee who was working at the time of the incident said that although he did not actually see the attack take place, he looked out the window of the store and saw the injured victim outside.

The employee said he was told the victim got “sucker-punched” and was bleeding from the face without a shirt on. The CVS manager on duty went outside to help the victim, bringing him rubbing alcohol and supplies to clean up his head wounds.

“I heard some screaming,” the employee said. “But it was a Thursday night, I always hear a lot of screaming outside from all the kids here.”

University Police Spokesman Paul Dillon said only that the victim was waiting in the parking lot when the attack occurred. He could not comment further because the Prince George’s County Police Department is conducting the investigation.

Prince George’s County Police could not be reached for comment.
