Terrapins men’s soccer forward Patrick Mullins was named a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, the highest individual honor in college soccer.

Mullins, along with Creighton midfielder Jose Gomez and Notre Dame forward Ryan Finley, was selected from 15 semifinalists through a combined NSCAA coaches and fan vote.

The New Orleans native, also named named ACC Offensive Player of the Year, leads the No. 2-seed Terps with 16 goals and eight assists for 40 points this year. He has seven game-winning goals for the Terps, who take on Georgetown tomorrow night in the College Cup.

Gomez, who was also named TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Year for Upperclassmen and Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, notched 21 points on six goals and nine assists for the Bluejays. No. 12-seed Creighton takes on No. 16-seed Indiana in the second semifinal tomorrow night.

Finley finished second in the nation this year with 21 goals for No. 1-seed Notre Dame, which was upset by Indiana in the third round. Finley also ranked second national with 46 points.

The fans had the opportunity to vote for the Hermann Trophy for the first time this year. Mullins ran away with the fan vote, recording 45,604 votes. Georgetown’s Steve Neumann was second in the vote (10,775) and New Mexico’s Deon Sandoval (10,775) was third.

Finley and Gomez received 928 and 737 votes, respectively.

The Terps are in Hoover, Ala., this weekend trying to win the program’s fourth national championship and third under coach Sasho Cirovski.
